An award-winning English Chardonnay — elegant, expressive and rich in character.
Four Fables is an award-winning premium English Chardonnay — elegant, balanced, and rich in character.
Notes of Mirabelle plum and Amalfi lemon lead into a bold, refined palate. Layers of ripe apple, toasted hazelnut and delicate filo pastry add depth and complexity, while a saline minerality brings freshness and a long finish
Fermented in a 1,700-litre concrete egg, stainless steel and oak, Four Fables is crafted with minimal intervention, balancing texture and complexity while allowing the purity of the fruit to shine.
The resourceful fox on the label nods to Abingworth’s rich history and hidden priest holes, symbolising intelligence, guidance, and resilience; a poetic reflection of the vineyard and the craft behind the wine.
This item is currently available for pre-order. It will be released and shipping will begin in Sep 2026.

100% Chardonnay
The 4-hectare Chardonnay block crowns the top of Greenhurst Field, basking in full sun on its south-facing slope. Warm, sandy loam soils and open skies encourage even ripening, while a mix of clones takes full advantage of the site’s microclimate. The result is Chardonnay with bright acidity, layered complexity, and refined, balanced fruit.
Sandy Silt Loam: Sand - 33.8%, Silt - 51.69%, Clay - 14.51%
Harvested in late October, the fruit was carefully hand sorted, whole-bunch pressed and gently settled overnight before fermentation. The wine was fermented in a combination of a 1,700-litre concrete egg, stainless steel and oak barrels, with each vessel contributing texture, freshness and complexity. Natural malolactic fermentation, lees ageing and careful blending created a Chardonnay of depth and precision before six months of bottle ageing completed the wine ahead of release.
2024 was cooler and wetter, but the Chardonnay blocks flourished. With less vegetative growth than other varieties, the vines concentrated on fruit development, producing larger, well-formed bunches. Sunny, sandy soils supported steady ripening, yielding a wine of elegant minerality and concentrated fruit character. Careful fruit selection and meticulous harvest decisions delivered Chardonnay with remarkable purity, concentration and balance, reflecting resilience and the character of the site.
Pair with butter-poached lobster, roast turbot with beurre blanc or herb-roasted chicken with wild mushrooms. It also complements creamy risotto, handmade pasta with brown butter and sage, or roast pork with apple and fennel. For cheese, choose aged Comté or Gruyère, whose nutty character beautifully echoes the wine's toasted hazelnut and pastry notes.
